Zack will be CPG's first Head Coach for the 2023/2024 season. Coach Novis comes to CPG as a native of Palm Desert, CA. In high school, he was a member of both CIF state championship teams at Palm Desert High School in 2010 and 2012. Novis played four years of college baseball at Mt. San Antonio College, College of the Desert and University of Saint Mary.
After finishing his playing career and receiving a degree from USM in psychology, Novis served as the Pitching Coach for Saint Mary from 2019-2020, where he coached 2 all-conference pitchers. He also joined the Palm Springs Collegiate League in the summer of 2018 after playing as an assistant coach for the California Grizzly. The following summer of 2019, Novis was named the Manager of the Morongo North Stars of the PSCL. During his time as Manager, the teams reached the playoffs in the 2019 and 2020 seasons before capturing a PSCL championship in 2021. Aside from building a positive winning culture, Novis states his best achievements during his time in the PSCL are all of his players he helped get recruited to College Programs. While coaching at USM and the PSCL, Coach Novis has moved every eligible player on to the next level.
In the Fall of 2021, Novis went to work for Driveline Baseball in Kent, WA where he worked his way from an Operations Intern to a full time Business Associate and Head Coach in their Youth Academy. During his time there, he served in a variety of roles ranging from helping players find their ideal training plans, improving the companies’ business operations, to training athletes using data-driven training methods. Novis lists Driveline’s world-class player development system and ability to work with the best trainers and sport scientists in the industry on a daily basis as playing the biggest part in his growth and development as a coach and professional.
“I’m very excited to be here at CPG. I can’t wait to start working with our players and do everything we can to develop our athletes on the field and in the classroom. I’m very much looking forward to sharing my experiences and knowledge I’ve gained working in baseball while creating strong relationships with each individual. Myself, Casey and our entire staff are here to create the best environments and use the best tools possible to put our players in position to reach their ultimate goals in this game, and in life.”
